All Troops & Units

This Knightica guide provides a detailed overview of the various troops available, categorized by their primary role and synergies. Understanding each units strengths and strategic purpose is key to building a powerful composition capable of reaching the highest levels of Endless mode.

Gold Generation Troops

These units are the foundation of builds designed to generate massive amounts of gold, which in turn funds their own scaling or a late-game transition to a win condition.

Scrapper

  • Role: Ranged DPS / Economic Payoff
  • Ability: Has a chance to gain permanent Attack and Health whenever you spend gold.
  • Strategy: Scrappers are the primary ranged damage dealers for economy-focused compositions. Their scaling is most effective in the mid-game. It is recommended to run two sets and level them to 2 or 3, as their scaling slows down at higher levels compared to other units.

Miner

  • Role: Gold Generation
  • Ability: Generates 1 gold per turn per level.
  • Strategy: Miners are your main source of unconditional income. They lack combat stats and do not scale, so their role is purely economic. In the early game, field as many Miners as you can survive with to snowball your gold income. They should be phased out in the late game to make room for stronger units.

Mercenary

  • Role: Frontline Tank / Melee DPS
  • Ability: Gains Attack and Health at the end of each turn based on your current gold (scaling stops at 50 gold).
  • Strategy: As the backbone of the composition, Mercenaries become incredibly durable tanks and damage dealers. Their close-range AoE attack synergizes well with various enchantments. Run two sets to maximize their scaling. While their ability encourages holding 50 gold, it is often better to spend gold early to strengthen your board for elite encounters.

Bombshell

  • Role: Late-Game Carry / Scaling Win Condition
  • Abilities:
    1. Self-Sacrifice: Explodes on death, making it ideal for on-death enchantments like Phoenix.
    2. Defense-to-Attack Conversion: All defense bonuses also grant an attack bonus, with the multiplier scaling based on the Bombshell’s level. This is the key to the “Infinity” strategy.
  • Strategy: The Bombshell is your ultimate win condition. Maintain only one set for the entire run, feeding it all copies to maximize its level. In the early and mid-game, it provides supplementary damage. In the late game, it becomes the central focus of your strategy.

Dragon Troops

Dragons are powerful, high-rarity units that can be obtained by hatching Eggs. They offer unique and potent scaling abilities that can significantly bolster your composition.

Acquiring Dragons

  • Eggs: Eggs are common troops that do nothing in combat but can be sold to hatch a random Dragon. It is recommended to level an Egg to Level 2 before selling to receive a Level 2 Dragon, which is much more potent.
  • Dragonlord Boss Soul: This boss reward can also be a source of dragons. It is a viable pick if other offered souls are weak or if you already have a strong dragon you wish to level up.

Dragon Types

Gold Dragon

  • Role: Economic Engine / Buffer
  • Ability: Grants 1 gold per turn per level and provides a stat bonus to adjacent Mercenaries.
  • Analysis: The most valuable dragon for an economy-focused strategy. It combines the gold generation of a Miner with the stat-buffing of a Sergeant, making it an incredibly slot-efficient unit for boosting both your economy and your frontline.

Ruby Dragon

  • Role: Self-Scaling DPS
  • Ability: Gains permanent attack whenever you spend gold.
  • Analysis: An exceptional damage dealer. In a gold-focused build, its attack stat scales incredibly fast, allowing it to serve as a primary carry throughout the mid-game with its powerful AoE attacks.

Onyx Dragon

  • Role: Tank
  • Ability: Gains permanent defense whenever you spend gold and grants gold upon death.
  • Analysis: A defensive unit whose utility is somewhat limited in builds where Mercenaries already provide a formidable frontline. Its defense scaling is less efficient than the Ruby Dragon’s attack scaling.

Sapphire Dragon

  • Role: Economic Utility
  • Ability: The first spell you buy each turn costs 1 less gold per level.
  • Strategy (Juggling): To maximize its benefit without taking up a combat slot, you can keep the Sapphire Dragon on your bench. Before buying your first spell each turn, move it onto the main board to get the discount, then move it back. This provides extra income at the cost of some micromanagement.

Blob Troops

Blobs are common support troops with a variety of elemental effects. In a standard run (as a non-Elementalist hero), only one type of Blob will appear throughout the entire game. Their usefulness can vary greatly depending on which one is available.

Golden Blob

  • Ability: Gains 1 Defense for every 1 gold spent.
  • Analysis: Functions similarly to an Onyx Dragon but scales more efficiently on a per-gold basis. However, like the Onyx Dragon, its role as a tank is often redundant in a composition that already has strong frontliners.

Arcana Blob

  • Ability: Has a chance to make the next spell you buy free. Also has three enchantment slots.
  • Analysis: A very strong Blob for spell-heavy strategies. The chance for free spells provides significant economic value. With three enchantment slots, it can also be built into a potent damage dealer.

Swamp Blob

  • Ability: Grants a copy of an adjacent ally to the shop. Also grants move speed.
  • Analysis: A solid B-tier Blob. It provides a source of extra XP for a target unit. It is best used on your Bombshell to grant it permanent stats and move speed. Its main drawback is its frontline positioning requirement.

Molten Blob

  • Ability: Grants a temporary stat buff to an adjacent ally at the start of combat.
  • Analysis: An excellent early-game buffer. At Level 1, its buff is comparable to that of an Epic-tier Shaman. It provides a strong temporary power boost to help survive early rounds but should be replaced later by units with permanent scaling.

Mana Blob

  • Ability: Grants 15 XP to an adjacent ally every 3 turns.
  • Analysis: A potent source of XP, comparable to a Princess. Due to its positioning requirements, it is best used to level up backline units like Miners, Princesses, or Dragons.

Iron Blob

  • Ability: Has a 35% chance to grant a free reroll when you buy it.
  • Analysis: A decent economic unit. A 35% chance for a free reroll is equivalent to approximately 0.7 gold in value. It becomes extremely powerful when combined with the Hustle boss reward.

General Utility & Support Troops

These troops can be added to almost any composition to provide valuable buffs, utility, or fill empty board space.

Burrower

  • Role: Niche Economic Utility
  • Ability: Digs for treasure, which can be a small stat buff or a 0-cost spell that grants 2 gold.
  • Analysis: The main value comes from the potential 2-gold spell. It’s generally not worth the effort to micromanage, but it can provide a minor economic boost if you have free space.

Dryad

To maximize the Dryad’s buff, rotate rectangular frontline units (using the ‘R’ key) to be horizontal, allowing more units to be adjacent to the Dryad.

  • Role: Early-Game Defensive Support
  • Ability: Grants a permanent defense buff to adjacent allies each turn.
  • Analysis: A solid generic troop for the early game, helping to stabilize your frontline before your main tanks have scaled. It should be replaced once better units are available.

Sergeant

  • Role: Offensive Support
  • Ability: Grants a permanent attack buff to adjacent allies each turn.
  • Analysis: A surprisingly efficient buffer due to its small 2×2 size. It can easily fit into a composition to provide a steady stream of attack scaling for your main carries.
The Sergeant troop card

Princess

  • Role: XP Scaling Support
  • Ability: Grants XP to all allies in a large radius each turn.
  • Analysis: The best generic XP-scaling unit in the game. Highly valuable for leveling up key units like the Bombshell, as higher levels directly increase its scaling potential. Her small 2×2 size makes her easy to place.

Cauldron

  • Role: Versatile Support
  • Ability: Provides a recurring buff to adjacent allies. The buff type can be changed by applying potions.
  • Analysis: A complex but powerful unit. It can provide a variety of buffs, but for scaling strategies, the XP buff is the most desirable. Princess is often a more efficient source of XP, but Cauldrons are excellent for providing temporary combat strength to survive difficult fights.

Troops Tier List

We can also add a tier list to the guide to help players quickly identify the most important units.

Important Note: This tier list evaluates units based only on their value and importance for the gold-focused, late-game strategy. A units ranking here does not reflect its power in other compositions, where it might be much stronger or weaker.

TierUnitsRole in This Strategy
S TIERBombshell, Mercenary, MinerCore Components: These units are the irreplaceable pillars of the strategy. The Bombshell is the win condition, the Mercenary is the mid-game carry, and the Miner is the primary economic engine.
A TIER (High Priority)Princess, Gold Dragon, ScrapperPowerful Accelerants: These units dramatically increase the power and consistency of the build. The Princess provides vital XP, the Gold Dragon offers unparalleled economic efficiency, and the Scrapper provides strong mid-game damage.
B TIER (Strong & Useful)Ruby Dragon, Arcana Blob, Mana Blob, SergeantSolid Choices: These are effective units that perform their roles well and are excellent additions. They provide powerful damage (Ruby Dragon), valuable spell/XP generation (Arcana/Mana Blob), or efficient buffs (Sergeant).
C TIER (Situational)Dryad, Molten Blob, Onyx Dragon, Golden Blob, CauldronEarly Game & Fillers: These units are useful for surviving the early stages or filling a temporary need (like extra defense or a combat buff) but should be replaced by higher-tier units as the game progresses.
Niche (Optimization)Sapphire Dragon, Iron Blob, BurrowerHigh-Effort, Specific Use: These units are only valuable in specific scenarios. The Sapphire Dragon and Burrower require “juggling” for economic gain, while the Iron Blob’s true potential is unlocked only with the Hustle boss reward.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

I’m new to Knightica, which troops should I focus on in the early game?

In the early game, your primary goals are to survive and build your economy. Start by acquiring a Miner to begin your gold generation. To strengthen your frontline, a Mercenary is an excellent choice that scales well, or a Dryad can serve as a great temporary tank. Your aim is to stay alive while building your economic foundation.

Is the tier list in this guide valid for all strategies?

No, this is a critical point. The tier list provided is designed ONLY for the specific late game strategy detailed in this guide. For example, the Onyx Dragon is ranked in C-Tier because its tanking role is redundant in this specific build. In a different strategy that needs a dedicated tank, the Onyx Dragon could easily be A-Tier or higher.

What are the most effective ways to earn gold in Knightica?

The most effective ways to earn gold are: Miners provide passive gold each turn; Gold Dragons generate gold and boost Mercenaries; the Flawless Spell gives gold for surviving units; and the Warrior Hero can convert excess health into gold.

What does the ‘juggling’ tactic mean?

Juggling is an advanced tactic that involves moving a unit from your bench to the main board just long enough to benefit from its ability, and then moving it back. For example, you can “juggle” a Sapphire Dragon by placing it on the board right before you buy a spell to get the discount, and then immediately returning it to the bench. This gives you the economic advantage without taking up a permanent slot on your board.
