How to Unlock All Characters

Lone Wolf features a total of three playable characters. While Boris is the default, the other two can be unlocked by completing specific objectives. Currently, these additional characters are only playable on their unique, story-related levels.

Lone Wolf playable character Boris, wolf, smiling

Boris (Default Character)

Boris is your starting character. He is well-rounded and, with the right buffs, can become incredibly powerful and fast.

Playstyle and Role

Boris is a versatile survivor. His gameplay is a balanced mix of careful exploration, intense melee combat, and strategic resource management. He is the only character who can utilize the full arsenal of weapons and benefit from permanent upgrades, making his journey one of continuous growth from a cautious scavenger to a formidable force.

Abilities

  • Weapon Mastery: Boris is the sole character capable of finding, crafting, and wielding all weapons in the game, from the basic Frying Pan to the devastating Scythe.
  • Permanent Buffs (Passive): Boris’s defining feature is his ability to grow stronger permanently. By finding and consuming rare items like the Golden Bacon Soup (for more stamina) and Boris’ Bone (for faster sprinting), you can fundamentally upgrade his core stats, making later floors much more manageable.

Strategy and Progression

Your main goal as Boris should be survival and growth. Prioritize finding the permanent buff items, as they provide a massive advantage. Learn the attack patterns of each enemy to master melee combat, and always be aware of your surroundings to avoid getting cornered by the Ink Demon.

Lone Wolf unlockable character Porter, figure with glasses, teleportation ability

Porter

Porter introduces a fast-paced and evasive playstyle completely different from Boris’s methodical approach. His gameplay is focused on speed, precision, and navigating the environment in unique ways.

Playstyle and Role

Playing as Porter is about constant motion. His “Flow” ability allows for unparalleled mobility, making his special mission feel like a high-speed chase or a complex navigational puzzle. You’ll be dodging through enemies and obstacles rather than confronting them head-on.

Abilities

  • Flow (Active Ability): Porter can execute a short-range, instantaneous teleport. This is perfect for dodging enemy attacks, crossing small gaps, or bypassing patrols. However, this ability consumes a large chunk of stamina and cannot be spammed, requiring tactical and timely use.

How to Unlock Porter

To play as Porter, you must first complete a collection quest within the Tunnels.

  1. First, unlock the Tunnels floor.
  2. Explore the Tunnels to find 5 Lost Papers.
  3. Once you have all five, return them to the Golden Days Gallery in the Safehouse. This will unlock Porter’s special mission.

Sammy Lawrence

Lone Wolf hidden character Sammy Lawrence, ink-stained, masked

Sammy Lawrence offers a pure stealth experience that will test your patience and strategic thinking. His gameplay forces you to abandon direct confrontation and embrace the shadows.

Playstyle and Role

As Sammy, you are a predator who is also incredibly vulnerable. Unable to run, you are easily caught in the open. Survival depends entirely on your mastery of his “Vanish” ability, using the studio’s ink-stained walls to navigate unseen and ambush your objectives.

Abilities

  • Vanish (Active Ability): Sammy can merge with large ink cracks on the walls, instantly teleporting to another linked crack in a different room. This is his primary tool for movement, escape, and setting up ambushes. It consumes stamina and requires a good understanding of the level layout.
  • Cannot Run (Passive Weakness): Sammy’s inability to sprint is his greatest challenge. Every move must be deliberate, as you cannot run from danger once you are spotted.

How to Unlock Sammy Lawrence

Unlocking Sammy requires you to perform a dark ritual using items found in his former domain.

  1. First, unlock the Music Department floor.
  2. While exploring the Music Department, collect 4 Candles and Sammy’s Mask.
  3. Return to Boris’ Safehouse and go to the men’s restroom.
  4. Set up the ritual items you collected to unlock Sammy’s special mission.

Character-Specific FAQ

After I unlock Sammy or Porter, can I use them to play on any floor?

No. This is a crucial point. Sammy and Porter are only playable in their own unique, self-contained story missions. For all regular progression, including exploring floors and fighting bosses, you must play as Boris.

Who is the best character to play?

Each character is best for their specific purpose. Boris is the best and only character for the main game and 100% completion. Porter is best for players who enjoy high-speed, evasive gameplay. Sammy is best for those who prefer a slow-paced, methodical stealth challenge.

I’m having trouble finding the Lost Papers or Sammy’s ritual items. Any tips?

These items are designed to be well-hidden. The best tip is to be patient and methodical. Try to clear a room of enemies before you search it thoroughly. Check inside every openable object (like coffins in the Music Department) and look on top of furniture and in dimly lit corners.

Does Porter’s Flow ability make him invincible?

No, it does not. Flow is an instantaneous teleport, not a shield or a dodge with invincibility frames. You are still vulnerable before and immediately after the teleport. Furthermore, using it consumes a lot of stamina, and if you run out, you’ll be left slow and exposed.

Why is Boris the only character who can use different weapons and permanent buffs?

This is due to game design. Boris’s journey is about long-term survival and growth. The weapons and buffs are part of his progression. Sammy and Porter, on the other hand, are designed for short, unique gameplay experiences where their fixed abilities are the central focus of the challenge.
